Steve Jobs wins a Grammy

He took technology and turned it into art, becoming a key player and leader in the entertainment world, particularly music, and changing the way we all use the Internet and consume music, TV, movies, books, graphics, and more.

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will be posthumously awarded a Grammy as the man behind iTunes and the iPod, for helping “create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books”, a statement from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).

Jobs, who died on 5 October, will be awarded on 12 February 2012 in the Trustees Award category. The announcement recently came from the Recording Academy about the “trustee” award being posthumously honored upon the innovator whose work with Apple made a significant impact on the music industry; Steve Jobs.

Mashable reports that “Besides his role in the creation of the iPod, Steve Jobs was instrumental in convincing the major record companies to sell their music on the iTunes Store, which has sold more than 16 billion songs since its beginning on April 28, 2003.”

Along with Jobs, other nominees are Dave Bartholomew and Rudy Van Gelder. Neil Portnow, President and CEO of the Recording Academy had this to say:
"This years honourees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture.  It is an honour to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry."

The Recording Academy called the late Jobs a visionary, pioneer and a genius, all high praise, considering he was once vilified by the same industry giving him this award.

OLED TV - WOW Technology!

Plasma, and LCD televisions will soon be a thing of the past. Or, so flexible it could be worn around your wrist and is virtually indestructible.
 - Erich Strasser owner from Oled-Display.net

Imagine a television screen as thin as a piece of paper that weighs no more than a few ounces. OLED TV is the next big thing in displays and television devices. An OLED TV screen uses a new display technology called OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes). OLED televisions are brighter, more efficient, thinner and feature better refresh rates and contrast than either LCD or Plasma.

About the technology?
OLED is an abbreviation which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. It is an evolution from the LED technology which adds on organic material to allow for more realistic looking colors than previously available. Such colors as yellow and red have been difficult to show in their true hues because of the limits of the screens. The new technology breaks through these barriers and allows the user to watch things like sports, movies and more in exactly the manner in which they were intended when they were recorded and distributed to the public.

OLEDs are made by placing thin films of organic (carbon based) materials between two conductors. When electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. The OLED materials emit light and do not require a backlight (unlike LCDs). Each pixel is a small light-emitting diode, in fact. OLED TV panels offers several advantages over LCDs:
  • Faster refresh rate, better contrast and better color reproduction
  • Thickness: typically a paper thin size
  • Better viewing angle - almost 180 degrees
  • Greener: OLEDs draw less power, and contain no bad metals
  • Potentially lexible or transparent

OLED TV's Nowadays
Sony 11" XEL-1 OLED TV
In October 2007, Sony amazed the world when they announced the XEL-1 TV, the world's first OLED TV. The XEL-1 is just 3mm thin, and has 960x540 resolution. It has an amazing 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio (much better than Plasma or LCD Televisions), a terrestrial digital tuner, speakers, HDMI, USB and Ethernet jacks. It weights 2kg.

LG 15" EL9500
LG have unveiled their first OLED TV, the EL9500 15". It has a 1366 x 768 resolution, contrast ratio of 100,000:1 and it's only only 1.7mm thick.

HP Pavilion DM1-3205au review

This netbook caught my interest the first time i saw it on a computer store at the mall - its style and size of 11'6" (not so big, not so small) that describes portability, are of my interests.

Credits Asianic
FEATURES
The HP Pavilion DM1 features AMD’s Fusion APU with a dual-core CPU at 1.6GHz and Radeon HD 6310 GPU, 2GB of RAM (8GB max), 500GB 7200RPM hard drive, 802.11b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI out, and an 11.6″ 1366×768 display with integrated webcam.

Perhaps more interesting than the DM1′s performance and stylish thin and light, 11.6in ultraportable laptop, is the amount of time it can squeezed out of its battery at 6 hours and 37 minutes.

The HP Pavilion dm1 has a stylish two-toned black-on-silver colour scheme. Its screen lid is glossy black (with a hint of circular patterns) and the keyboard, palmrest and touchpad has a rich silver finish.

The laptop is certainly good looking, and despite of its slim form factor, the HP Pavilion dm1 is very well built and weighs a comfortable 1.5kg - with a six-cell battery.

The keys are nice and big and have a slight inward curve to them - certainly unique and comfortable to type on.The screen is nice and bright, evenly lit and is good for watching movies or reading text.

Earth-like Planet 'Kepler-22b' - Ideal Place for Life

http://en.wikipedia.org
"This is a phenomenal discovery in the course of human history"
- Geoff Marcy of University of California

NASA discovers a new planet which is similar to Earth, sitting outside our solar system which seems to be ideal place for life.

The planet is smack in the middle of Goldilocks zone (that's how astronomers call it), that hard to find place that's not too hot, not too cold, where water, which is essential for life, doesn't freeze or boil.

NASA announced this planet's confirmation on December 5 along with other discoveries by its Kepler telescope, which was launched on a planet-hunting mission in 2009.

The new planet - named Kepler-22b - has key aspects it shares with Earth. It circles a star that could be the twin of our sun and at just about the same distance. The planet's year of 290 days is even close to ours. It likely has water and rock.

The planet is bout 2.4 times the Earth size, a bit big for life to exist on the surface. It is more likely the Neptune, a gas-and-liquid planet with only a rocky core and mostly ocean. It probably has water and rock.

New planet discovery excites scientists, with the distance of 600 light years away with roughly the right temperature for plant and animal habitation which is causing a buzz in the science community.

  • Windows 8 will support multiple monitors with the new ability to natively display different background images on each display and customized taskbar(s) on each of the connected displays.
  • Windows 8 developer, Developer Preview, comes with two recovery functions - reset and refresh, which both make a complete restore easier than a re-installation.
